Ayurveda: The Art of Living Well
Breathwork for Manifestation: Listening to the Wisdom of the Body
After returning home from my trauma release training in Bali a month ago, I knew that bringing this work to Auckland felt deeply aligned with everything I have practised through Ayurveda over the past two decades. Ayurveda teaches us that true health is balance between body, mind, emotions, and spirit.
Together with my friend Lisa Hamilton-Gibbs, we recently facilitated our first Breathwork for Trauma Release and Manifestation evening in Auckland. As we walked into the room, we felt both excited and humbled. We had created a space where people could simply arrive as they were, set aside the demands of daily life, and reconnect with themselves.
What unfolded was incredibly moving.
Through Qigong, gentle breathwork, sound, nervous system regulation, and guided somatic practices, participants began to soften. Tension held in the body for years slowly started to release. Some experienced deep emotional shifts while others described feeling lighter, calmer, and more connected to themselves.
One participant shared these words afterwards:
"I had the ultimate privilege of attending a breathwork session with Lisa and Sarita. It was expertly facilitated. I felt supported through the whole journey and left knowing that I had taken the next step in healing trauma and preparing for a life ahead with clarity."
For me, this beautifully captures what this work is truly about. It is not about fixing ourselves, it is about creating the right conditions for the body and nervous system to remember their natural ability to heal.
Modern life keeps many of us living in our heads. Stress, grief, anxiety, burnout, and difficult life experiences can become stored within the body and continue to influence our wellbeing long after the original event has passed.
The breath offers us a direct pathway back to ourselves.
When combined with somatic practices, movement, music, and safe connection, breathwork allows the body to release what no longer serves us while creating space for something new to emerge. Clarity. Purpose. Creativity. Joy. This is where manifestation begins, not through striving, but through alignment.
Our next group session, Breathwork for Trauma Release and Manifestation, will take place on Wednesday 19 August from 6 pm to 8 pm at SOMM, 1 Howe Street. Together with Lisa, I am also offering one on one somatic therapy sessions for trauma release at the Ayurveda New Zealand clinic.
As an Ayurvedic practitioner, I see this work as a natural extension of Ayurveda, Yoga, and Panchakarma. Healing occurs on many levels, and when we listen to the wisdom of the body, profound transformation becomes possible.
Perhaps the greatest lesson I have learned is that healing does not need to be difficult. Sometimes it begins with simply slowing down, taking a breath, and allowing ourselves to be fully present. When we create the right conditions, the body often knows exactly what it needs to heal.
